PP-g-MAH

PP-g-MAH

PP-g-MAH series products are maleic anhydride functionalized propylene polymers, which are mainly used in PP modification. Strong polar side groups (maleic anhydride) are introduced into the main chain of polypropylene, which can improve the interaction between polar materials and polar materials, and due to the interfacial adhesion of non-polar materials, it can improve their adhesion and compatibility.

Typical application

1. Polyolefin alloy compatibilizer

2. PP enhanced filling

3. PP wood plastic composite material

The methods of PP grafting MAH

The traditional twin-screw reactive extruder was improved. The effects of auxiliary grafting monomers and initiators with different half-life on melt grafting of maleic anhydride onto polypropylene (PP-g-MAH) were studied. The results showed that the addition of auxiliary grafting monomer in advance could effectively inhibit the fracture of macromolecular free radicals in the process of MAH grafting PP; The staged addition of initiators with different half lives plays a good synergistic role, greatly improving the grafting efficiency of MAH and effectively reducing its residue

The methods of PP grafting MAH
Scope of application

A method commonly used to induce compatibility between polyamides and polyolefins is by chemical modification of the polyolefins. This concept has been employed to produce compatibilized blend of nylon 6 (N6) and polypropylene copolymer (PPCP) by adding maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MAH) as a third component. The blends of N6, PPCP and PP-g-MAH were prepared using a twin screw extruder. TEM of the blends revealed better dispersion and reduction in the size of the dispersed phase. In the case of N6-rich blends, about 25% increase in tensile strength was observed with just three phb of PP-g-MAH. The maximum impact strength and flexural modulus were observed at around 30% PPCP. The incorporation of PP-g-MAH increased the flexural modulus of N6/PPCP blends significantly.
