How to solve the toughening and compatibility issues of high-speed rail track materials?
According to the “Outline of the Advanced Railway Planning for a New Era of Transportation Power” issued by the State Railway Group, by 2035, my country will take the lead in building a modern railway network, including about 70,000 kilometers of high-speed railways. Under the new infrastructure, rail transit construction will usher in leapfrog development, and people’s travel will become more convenient and comfortable. Then, this has to improve the iron track gaskets and casings, which play a vital role in ensuring driving safety and comfort. So, what materials are they made of?     Domestic railway track equipment uses a large amount of plastic material PA66 (nylon 66). PA66 has excellent mechanical properties and processing properties. Compared with metal parts, PA66 is lightweight, rust-proof, vibration-resistant, and impact-resistant. However, high-speed rail requires materials with high strength and high toughness, and pure PA66 is difficult to meet these conditions. Against this background, research on the modification of PA66 has developed rapidly. Nylon modified materials can help improve the problems of train shaking and loud noise, ensure stable wheelbase, reduce the number of maintenance times, and especially have excellent vibration resistance, which can effectively ensure the smooth operation of high-speed railway locomotives. At the same time, high-speed rail generally uses glass fiber as reinforcing material. Due to the good affinity between glass fiber and PA, the solution viscosity of PA is low. Even after adding more glass fiber, the PA solution can still maintain good fluidity. Therefore, the current materials for high-speed rail track gaskets and casings are mostly reinforced and toughened by PA66+GF.   The application environment of high-speed rail track gaskets and bushings determines that they need to take into account good toughness while pursuing high rigidity. Therefore, it is necessary to meet the two conditions of toughening and compatibility at the same time. Coaces’ W1A can solve these two problems very well. W1A is a maleic anhydride functionalized olefin copolymer, which is both a toughening agent and a compatibilizer. It can simultaneously meet the high rigidity and high toughness of high-speed rail track gaskets and casings.     It is recommended to add 6%-10% W1A while using PA66+GF, so as to achieve the following effects: 1. Through the plasticization of twin screws, the ethylene octene copolymer in W1A will form microgel particles, which are dispersed in the PA material to form an island-like structure and improve the toughness of the material. 2. The base material of W1A has a lower glass transition temperature, which not only improves the toughness of the nylon modified material, but also improves the low-temperature performance of the nylon and can be used in an environment of -40°C. 3. The MAH polar group in W1A will also react and combine with glass fiber to further improve the compatibility between nylon and glass fiber. As we all know, since its establishment in 2013, COACE Chemical has always served modified material companies, focusing on the research and development, production, sales and service of plastic compatibilizers, tougheners and functional additives. However, what everyone doesn’t know is that we serve not only modified granulation companies, but also all manufacturing companies that require modified blending of raw materials, and are committed to making material blending more exciting.
