Coace® W1L-2 ist ein mit Maleinsäureanhydrid funktionalisiertes Polyethylen mit hoher Pfropfungsrate. Es liegt in Granulatform vor.

One of the most difficult problems in producing high-performance WPC products is generating strong interfacial adhesion between the hydrophilic wood fibers and the hydrophobic polymer matrix. This interface is crucial for ensuring efficient stress transmission and maximizing the final composite’s mechanical, thermal, and weathering properties. Our maleic anhydride functionalized coupling agent was developed specifically to address this issue and improve the compatibility of wood and plastic in WPC formulations.

  • Maleic Anhydride Functionality:Our coupling agent is composed of a polyethylene polymer grafted with maleic anhydride (MAH) functional groups. These cyclic anhydride moieties are extremely reactive and can create covalent connections with the hydroxyl groups on the surface of wood fibers. This establishes a strong physical and chemical bond between the polymer and the wood, significantly increasing interfacial adhesion.
  • Improved mechanical properties:By improving the wood-plastic interface, our MAH-grafted polyethylene coupling agent directly improves the mechanical performance of WPCs. We observed up to 30% gains in tensile strength, flexural modulus, and impact resistance as compared to unaltered WPC formulations. The improved stress transfer allows the wood fibers to better strengthen the polymer matrix.
  • Enhanced weatherability:Outdoor applications expose the wood component of WPCs to UV light, moisture, and other environmental variables that might degrade it. Our maleic anhydride coupling agent reduces weathering by forming a more robust surface that protects the wood fibers. This improves the long-term color and dimensional stability of WPC products.
